That said, Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve is one of the most active green turtle nesting sites in the world, and sightings are very common, especially between May and October. Is the Wadi Shab hike difficult?

Not at all for most travelers. The trail is rated easy to moderate. You'll be walking on uneven terrain and wading through shallow water, so sturdy sandals or water shoes are ideal. The swim to the hidden waterfall cave is optional you can skip it and still have an incredible experience.

Yes, children are welcome and often absolutely love both Wadi Shab and the turtle watching experience. For the night turtle tour, children should be calm and quiet so as not to disturb the turtles. Check with us regarding age-specific requirements for the reserve.

Day 01 :

Wadi Shab, Bimmah Sinkhole & Sur

Pickup from Muscat

Your journey begins early. Around 8:00 AM, your private vehicle picks you up from your hotel or a pre-arranged meeting point in Muscat. The drive east along Oman's coastal highway is already a pleasure in itself the road cuts between jagged mountains and shimmering blue water, making it easy to forget you're supposed to be watching the road and not gawking at the scenery.

Stop 1 :

Bimmah Sinkhole

About an hour and a half into the drive, you'll make your first stop at the Bimmah Sinkhole (also called Hawiyat Najm Park). This natural limestone crater, filled with striking blue-green water, is one of Oman's most unusual geological wonders. You can take a quick dip to cool off, snap some photos from the viewing area, or simply marvel at how something this stunning exists just off a coastal highway.

Stop 2 :

Wadi Shab

Then comes the moment many travelers say is the highlight of their entire Oman trip: Wadi Shab.

Wadi Shab, located near the town of Tiwi, is one of Oman's most celebrated natural wonders. Getting there is part of the fun you start with a short boat crossing across a small river to reach the wadi entrance. From there, you hike for 45 to 60 minutes through a dramatic canyon, with towering rock walls on either side and crystal-clear pools below.

The hike itself is easy to moderate. You'll hop over rocks, wade through shallow streams, and pass through groves of date palms. Then, just when you think it can't get any better, the canyon opens up into a series of dazzling turquoise pools where you can swim.

For the adventurous souls: there's a hidden waterfall cave tucked deeper into the wadi. Reaching it requires swimming through a narrow channel and ducking into a low opening but the reward is a secret cave with a waterfall cascading into a glowing pool inside. It's genuinely magical.

Day 5 :

Lunch & Drive to Sur

After working up a real appetite in the wadi, you'll stop at a local restaurant for lunch (not included in the tour cost, but always delicious and affordable). Then it's back on the road toward Sur.

The drive from Wadi Shab to Sur continues along the coastline, passing fishing villages, date palm farms, and the kind of scenery that makes you want to pull over every five minutes.

Evening :

Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve

From Sur, it's a short drive to Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, located at the easternmost point of the Arabian Peninsula. This is where you'll check into your hotel or eco-lodge for the night.

After dinner, your guided night tour of the turtle nesting beach begins. A knowledgeable guide leads you to the beach after dark, where you'll watch in hushed, respectful silence as massive green sea turtles emerge from the ocean, dig their nests in the sand, and lay their eggs. It's one of the most profoundly moving wildlife encounters you can have anywhere in the world.
